Why Nigeria?
Nigeria National Hevel New Energy Project Business Opportunities
Nigeria will launch three major national-level new energy projects in 2026. Backed by strong policy support, sufficient capital supply and high market openness, the country welcomes global cooperation in equipment supply, EPC engineering services, and local joint venture manufacturing, releasing enormous overseas business opportunities in the new energy sector. Meanwhile, officially endorsed industry exhibitions serve as high-end docking platforms to help enterprises accurately explore and expand the local Nigerian market.
Overview of Three Core National New Energy Projects
1. “Timbu Light” Initiative (Clean Energy Replacement for MSMEs)
Launched in August 2026 and led by Nigeria’s National Board for Technology Incubation, this project aims to replace diesel generators for 1 million local micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) by equipping them with photovoltaic systems and high-efficiency lighting products, creating huge market demand for over one million sets of energy equipment. It opens global cooperation opportunities for equipment supply and local joint venture assembly and manufacturing, ideal for enterprises seeking overseas product export and localized layout in Nigeria.
2. DARES Distributed Renewable Energy Expansion Project (Key National Electrification Livelihood Project)
Implemented by Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency, this key livelihood project features ultra-high fund security. It is supported by NGN 502.21 billion in national fiscal funds and an additional USD 750 million complementary loan from the World Bank. Covering more than 17.5 million people suffering from power shortages, the project focuses on the procurement of residential PV systems and complete microgrid equipment, with open bidding for equipment supply and EPC general contracting services. Supported by standardized World Bank financing, the project features reliable payment guarantee and stable performance, making it a high-priority premium project for foreign investors.
3. Northwest Regional Solar Street Light Special Project (Long-term Government Procurement Project)
Promoted by the Northwest Development Commission, the project has a total investment of NGN 127.4 billion. It will construct a 700-kilometer intelligent solar street light road network across seven northwest states of Nigeria. As a long-term international government procurement project, it globally procures PV modules, energy storage batteries, LED lamps and intelligent control systems, delivering sustainable and stable long-term procurement orders and ample cooperation space.
Practical Cooperation Suggestions for Chinese Enterprises
Chinese enterprises are advised to deploy in the Nigerian market in advance: complete SONCAP certification and other market access qualifications beforehand, cooperate with reliable local partners, and actively participate in three major cooperation models including equipment supply, EPC general contracting and local joint venture factory establishment. Priority is recommended for the DARES project supported by World Bank funds due to its minimal financial risks and optimal payment security.
High-end Industry Docking Platform (Officially Endorsed Exhibition)
Supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the exhibition gathers Nigerian government officials, international energy experts and senior executives of leading industry enterprises. Centering on policy interpretation, technical exchange and industry trend analysis, it builds a high-end authoritative platform for accessing official resources, acquiring first-hand project information and accurately exploring Nigeria’s booming new energy market.
